I just wanted to drop a quick note before we head off on the honeymoon to let you know that Daleesa and Dawn were OUTSTANDING yesterday. They arrived early, were so sweet, and made everyone look absolutely amazing. Every person helping us get ready was so impressed by their professionalism and talent.

Daleesa and Dawn - thank you. I couldn't have been happier with the way everything turned out. I felt incredibly beautiful and my hair and makeup stayed perfect all night! You guys are the best.

Today I traveled to Closter for Amanda's wedding party. I styled hair for Amanda, her mother and 3 of her bridesmaids. We had a slight change with Amanda's hair from the initial trial. She decided to not have me brush out (loosen) her curls. The style looked great on her and she liked the final look even better than her initial trial. Makeup Tips BY Dawn....

Hello Beauties!!!

As a makeup artist, I not only get great satisfaction out of being a part of your special day, but it is also meaningful to me when I can reach out and help my friends with makeup tips that will last a lifetime!!!

To all of our ladies with "Light Skin".....Best Shades....A yellow-based foundation will look most natural. To define lips, choose colors that contrast with your skin tone: think pale pinks, deep plums, and mauves. Steer Clear....pinkish foundation, which can make your skin look pasty, dark eyeshadows, which close up the eye, making the eye appear smaller.

My Personal Favorite Eyeshadow combo on Light Skin....Naked eye pigment by MAC cosmetics, Patina and Banshee eyeshadow by MAC cosmetics.

Tips for "Medium Skin".....Best Shades....A warm beige foundation with gold flecks will compliment your olive undertones. On eyes, choose deep jewel shades like emerald green and deep amethyst - they are neutral tones on medium skin tones. For lips, sheer caramel shades look the prettiest!!! You must avoid....Matte pastels or white based colors like slate grey or silver, they can come across too chalky!!! Same goes for your foundation, never apply shades that are even a smidge lighter than your skin tone. Shimmery shades add dimension to olive skin, making it have more glow.

My Personal Favorites on Medium Skin....Star Violet and Greensmoke shadows by MAC cosmetics. Naked eye pigment and Pearl color cream by MAC also adds a beautiful shimmer and dewiness to your skin.

For our "Dark-Skinned Girls".....Best Shades....Dark skin has the most complex undertones. This just means more colors are flattering than not. Deep brown shadows that are one shade lighter than your skin, will brighten up the eye. On lips, definitely bold is flattering! Blue-based purples, berries, and burgundies look fabulous! Stay away from....light pastel shades!

My Personal Favorite Look on Dark Skin....Amber Lights and Coppering eyeshadows by MAC cosmetics. Can't forget "Oh" lipstick by MAC cosmetics too!!

Now, if you pick up just one personal tip from this.....and use it.....I would be so happy!!

Hair Color Tips

Although many brides have other colorists they regularly see, often I am asked when the best time is to color their hair. If you are having an single process (the whole head one color), it is best to do it the week of your wedding. If you are having highlights &/or lowlights, it is best to do it the week before your wedding.

HINT: If your budget is tight because of your upcoming event, consider having just a partial foil rather than full head; or surface foil rather than partial. You will save a bit of money, but be covering the essential parts of your grow-out!

For anyone considering a hair color change: Please do this no sooner than 30 days before your wedding, or do it after the honeymoon. Unless you are completely unhappy with your haircolor, it's not a great idea to change so close to your wedding date. If you don't like the change it can be quite costly to change back (if even possible).

Hey there Ladies! My name is Daleesa and I'd first like to say to you all, 'Congratulations on your upcoming Wedding!' I am happy for you and I can relate to all that you are going through as you prepare for your Big Day. I 'tied the knot' more than a decade ago and can still remember some of those planning moments. :)

I am excited to be a part of the La Sorella Bridal - Team Blog. I'm quite new to blogging, so hopefully I'll learn some things during the experience. LOL Just bear with me.

I mainly wanted to introduce myself and share a little info to familiarize yourselves with me. For all of the brides who have already booked with me and also those who are still 'looking around'.... I must say that I absolutely LOVE working with brides. I've been doing hair, including brides since 1989 (shhhhhh, I know I'm dating myself). ;) So rest assure, I have plenty of experience, and I DO keep up with the trends!!

As long as I can remember there has always been a toss-up of whether it's better to travel to a salon or to hire the artist(s) to come to you on your wedding day. Believe me when I say this (as I work both on-location & in a salon). HIRE US TO COME TO YOU!! It is so much less stress on the bridal party. It means much for the artist to be able to 'focus' all of their attention on just you and your girls!!! It's well worth it, hands down.

As some of you may have noticed, much of the work in my portfolio is 'fashion' and/or work I've done on professional models. I will definitely be adding real brides to our blog, and hopefully some in my portfolio too. Above is a bride who hired me for her wedding last November.

For now let me say that it's great meeting all of you in cyber-space. Hopefully one day we can meet face-to-face!! Happy planning on behalf of La Sorella Bridal!!
